Modders Develop Offline Mode to Salvage The Day Before, 2023's Controversial Semi-MMO
Modders are currently working on restoring The Day Before, this year's most controversial zombie shooter game. Initially, highly anticipated and Steam's most wishlisted game, the launch was marred by alleged trademark disputes, scam accusations, and controversies surrounding unpaid labor. Contrary to promises, the game failed to be the promised MMO, resulting in an "Overwhelmingly Negative" rating on Steam. Just four days after the disastrous launch, the developer, Fntastic, announced a shutdown, issuing refunds to players and scheduling the game's offline closure on January 22, 2024. In an attempt to salvage the broken game, modders Luci0 and fskartd are developing an Offline Mod to extend its lifespan beyond the imminent shutdown. Luci0 stated, "No promises or ETA’s as of now," emphasizing the early stages of development. The modders have successfully bypassed Steam's DRM, gaining access to all game files. While they have managed to load into the map, character movement remains a challenge. This initiative is intriguing, considering the game's initially poor reception. Despite unfavorable reviews and player sentiments, exploring the map and uncovering its secrets through the mod might evoke a sense of what could have been.
